Description
The White House, located at 18 Limpsfield Road, is a building from the second half of the 17th century with significant additions from the 18th century and further alterations made in the 1930s. The main block, which faces the road, is timber-framed and features an old tile roof. At the north end, there is a short cross-wing with a half-hipped old tile roof. The timber-framing consists of closely spaced upright studs with straight braces visible in the upper storey of the gable end of the cross-wing. A half bay, also timber-framed, has been added to the south side. The roof of the main block was raised in the 18th century to allow for two larger windows, and all the window openings were inserted at this time. There is an off-centre door that was added later, and the building has end stacks. At the rear, there is an 18th-century wing constructed of knapped flint with red brick quoins and an old tile roof. The garden elevation was altered in the 1930s.
