Description
This is an 18th-century house with later additions, situated off Purley Bury Avenue. It originally comprised two spans and is rendered. The house is two storeys high, featuring three sash windows on the front elevation. A 19th-century porch has been added. The roof is slated and has a mansard form with two dormers. The south front has three unequal bays, including a French window on the ground floor and sash windows above. A two-bay extension to the east features a projecting canted bay window on the ground floor, also with a slated roof. A substantial range of 18th and 19th-century outbuildings are located to the east, constructed of red brick and colourwashed. An old conservatory with a curved glazed roof is located on the south side. The house is notable for its historical connection to John Horne Tooke, a politician and writer who authored "The Diversions of Purley" and resided here.
