Description
This is a house built in 1937 by Georg Nemes, designed in the Expressionist style. It is constructed of brick, which has been rendered. The roof is irregularly shaped and hipped, featuring a central chimney stack.
The west front has two storeys and a basement. The facade is multifaceted and includes a projecting basement level with a garage featuring double doors, partially glazed with grilles designed to resemble organic growth, and a roof terrace with a copper coping. To the left of the garage are brick steps with metal railings also featuring an organic growth design, leading to the front door. The ground and first floors are arranged in three bays, with a recessed central bay. The off-centre doorway has a wooden door with an organic growth design grille. To the right of the doorway are French windows opening onto the terrace. Further to the right is a two-light steel-framed window. Above, central French windows are protected by iron balcony rails. Single three-light steel framed windows flank the front on either side.
The interior remains unaltered and retains its original fittings. The ground floor plan incorporates a centrally placed straight flight staircase and an angled fireplace within a large, L-shaped living room. This room has multifaceted walls and a ceiling, with polygonal light fittings and a plain, splayed and faceted chimneypiece. The house was designed according to the philosophy of Rudolf Steiner.
