Description
The Coal Duty Boundary Marker, located on the west side of Station Road opposite number 205, was erected in 1861 or shortly thereafter. It was cast by Henry Grissell at the Regents Canal Ironworks on Eagle Wharf Road in Hoxton. This post was established under the London Coal and Wine Duties (continuance) Act of 1861 and is a standard "City Post." The marker is a square cast iron post with chamfered edges, a projecting cornice, and a frieze that features the arms of the City of London on one face. The stem of the post displays the inscription "24 & 25 VICT/CAP 42."
