Description

Foreman’s house at College Farm dates to 1883. It is constructed of red brick with patterned tile hanging to the upper storey, and has a steeply pitched tiled roof to the eaves. The building is two storeys high and displays an irregular composition in the Domestic Revival style. The layout consists of two main bays, with the right-hand one projecting forward beneath a bargeboarded gable and featuring a canted bay window to the ground floor. The left-hand bay is set back, with a projecting lean-to porch on the ground floor. To the right of the right-hand bay is a further one-storey, one-bay projection with a double-pitched roof visible on the right return, and a corner entrance underneath. Windows are square-headed sashes, with the upper lights containing small panes and timber glazing bars. Tall stacks are present on either side and to the rear (the side stacks have been shortened). The house formed an integral part of the Express Dairy Company’s pioneering model dairy.
