Description

This is a house located at 113 Hampstead Way, built around 1908 to 1910. It features unpainted pebbledash with a red brick plinth, gable kneelers, and some sills and weatherings made of tile flats. The gable heads are tile hung and weatherboarded in various styles, and there are brick stacks. The roofs are tiled with swept eaves and exposed rafter ends.

The house has two storeys and a V-shaped plan, similar to No. 4 Meadway. The main block is rectangular and runs parallel to Hampstead Way, with a wing that has a two-span roof at an angle. The entrance is flat-arched and located at the corner, framed by brick spurs that support a timber-framed, gable-facing oriel. To the right, there is a canted bay with a half dormer above it. The two gable ends of the wing have shallow eaves, with soffits that finish unusually in tile flats. The left-hand gable features a broad stack with a ribbed shaft. There is also an outshut with a square stack and a dormer. The gable end along Hampstead Way is tile hung, while the gable facing Meadway is weatherboarded and includes a hipped and canted bay on the ground floor.

The rear and return elevations are designed to create a smooth transition from Meadway to the intersection with Hampstead Way, showcasing a picturesque arrangement of features and finishes. This house is part of a group that includes No. 4 Meadway, No. 22 Hampstead Way, Nos. 6, 8, and 10 Meadway (known as the 'Baillie-Scott' corner), and Nos. 28 and 28 Hampstead Way with 5 Meadway. The design of these four blocks was originally assigned to Baillie Scott, who completed only one. Nonetheless, the group possesses significant architectural interest and contributes greatly to the townscape.
