Description
The Statue of Sir Robert Peel, located at the Peel Centre, was created in 1855 by the sculptor William Behnes, as noted on its base, along with the inscription 'Robinson and Cottam, Pimlico, London'. The statue stands 11 feet 2 inches tall, depicting Peel in a tailcoat while holding a scroll in his right hand. It is set on a modern plinth made of Portland stone, which is inscribed with 'PEEL BORN 1788 DIED 1850'. Originally unveiled in Cheapside in July 1855, the statue was removed in the 1930s and has been situated at the Hendon Police College since the 1950s. It was later unveiled outside the new Peel House in 1974.
