Description
This is a mid-19th century terrace, located on the north-west side of Sutherland Avenue in London. Originally comprising numbers 176 to 186 (even), the terrace has been altered in later years, particularly in the 20th century to the attic level. The building is constructed of brick, with a stuccoed facade and channelled detailing to the ground floor. It stands four storeys high with a basement, and each house originally had two bays. The four bays to the right break forward and are distinguished by quoins. Doric porches, some of which are damaged, provide access to the front doors, which each have overlights. Windows are primarily casements, some with segment-arched heads. An iron balcony is present on the first floor. First-floor casements are set within dentil-detailed, pedimented surrounds supported by attached composite columns. A first-floor band is visible, followed by second-floor casements in architraves with hoods resting on consoles. A decorative guilloche band is present, although partially broken. The windows on the upper floors are set in architraves. The building is finished with a cornice, which incorporates dentils and modillions in some sections.
