Description

A pair of gate piers located on the south side of the forecourt of St John's Lodge, built around 1846 as part of the villa's enlargement by architect Sir Charles Barry. These gate piers are made of stone and feature a channelled square section with prominent cornice caps. They are topped with Baroque escutcheons that are supported by figures of boys, which may have been added by Lord Bute.
