Description

49 and 51 Brewer Street are a pair of terrace houses built in the early 18th century and significantly refronted in the 19th century. The buildings are constructed of brick with stucco dressings, and have slate roofs. They are four storeys high with an attic and each has two windows. The ground floors now have shop fronts added in the 20th century, although No. 51 retains original Victorian shop detailing including consoles and cornice. The upper floors feature stucco architraves; bracketed cornices on the first floor, lugged segmental heads on the second, and arched heads on the third. A bold modillion cornice runs along the parapet. The interiors of both houses remain largely original, including panelled entrance passages, box cornices, and dog-leg staircases with turned balusters.
