Description

This building comprises a block of shops and offices constructed in 1901, designed by Sir Ernest George Caröe. It is located on the south side of Knightsbridge in the City of Westminster. The building is built of red brick with stone dressings and has a green slate roof. The architectural style is eclectic classical, incorporating Flemish influences.

The composition is almost symmetrical, featuring eighteen main bays. The central three bays project forward, along with the left end three bays, which have pediments, and the right end four bays, which feature a pediment. The building is four storeys high, topped by two tiers of dormers. The ground-floor shop windows have largely been altered, with original features retained at numbers 57, 67, and 91. The mullioned and transomed windows with half columns are located in the centre and end bays. Giant thermal windows are present in the intervening bays on the first floor. Windows are a mix of sashes with small panes and glazing bars, and leaded lights. Semicircular oriels are interspersed on the upper storeys. A prominent cornice runs along the top of the building. The pedimented dormers feature sunk parapets and are interspersed across the roofline. Tall, polychromed chimneys are also a feature.
