Description
The Crimean War and Indian Mutiny Memorial, designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott, was built between 1859 and 1861. This memorial features a polished red granite column with a base dressed in Portland stone and includes sculpture work. It is designed in the High Victorian Gothic style. The column rises from a base adorned with four lions and has a shaft-ring from which shields hang. At the top, there is a large Gothic capital surmounted by a lantern-cross, and above all, a statue of St. George slaying the dragon. The memorial was erected in memory of the fallen of Westminster School.
