Description

TQ 2680 NE CITY OF WESTMINSTER KENSINGTON GARDENS, W2 65/31 14.1.70 Railings and balustrades surrounding The Fountains, with kerbstones to pools and statue of Jenner. GV II Formal water garden. Mid C19. Portland stone kerbs and balustrades and cast iron railings. Rectangular area with four pools and central fountain surrounded by cast iron railings with entrances to east and west flanked by Portland stone pedestals with urns. Urns surmounted. Portland stone balustrading breaks forward to south, to accommodate shell fountain supported by figures of mermaids. Set into the railings on the east side, monument to Jenner, a bronze seated figure on a Portland stone plinth flanked by stone seats. Integral part of composition with the Pavilion at The Fountains (qv).
