Description

A row of houses numbered 27 to 41, Eccleston Square, dating from the mid-19th century. The houses are built of stucco and comprise four storeys, an attic, and a basement. Each house has a two-window front. The design is part of the original layout of Eccleston Square, planned by Thomas Cubitt from 1835. Architectural details include projecting Doric porches incorporating triglyph friezes. Nos. 38 to 41 have Ionic columns but retain the triglyph friezes. The houses feature panelled front doors, a continuous balustraded balcony to the first floor, and square-headed windows with architraves above the ground floor and cornices to the first and second floors. The windows are sash windows with plate glass, with French casements on the first floor. A modillion cornice sits above the third floor, complemented by a subsidiary cornice to the attic. Cast iron area railings are present.
