Description
Nos. 42 and 43 on Drury Lane are artisan dwellings and shops built around 1897 by R S Wornum as part of the Broad Court scheme. The buildings are constructed of red brick with stone dressings and feature a slate roof. They exhibit a Queen Anne - Arts and Crafts style, with slightly asymmetrical paired gabled fronts that are three stories high with an attic, each front having two windows. The return to Broad Court has an irregular four-window layout with an off-center gable.
On the ground floor, there are two large segmental arched openings with keystones that frame shop windows and wood pilastered doorways. The upper floors feature tripartite and single segmental arched sash windows. A stone cornice runs beneath the gables, with the left gable containing a Diocletian attic window. The return has segmental arched windows and a doorway with an architrave head that sweeps to a point beneath the cornice, similar to No. 19 Broad Court. These buildings are included for their group value with Broad Court.
