Description

The Sun Tavern Public House is a terraced building dating from around 1860 to 1870, located on Long Acre in the City of Westminster. It features a stucco exterior and a slate roof, showcasing an eclectic Italianate style. The building stands four storeys high and is two windows wide.

On the ground floor, there are panelled and glazed doors on either side of broad semicircular arched bar windows, arranged in a Venetian style with dividing piers and enriched oculi above the doors. The framing is decorated with ornamented pilasters that support consoles at the ends of the fascia, while the cornice above serves as the sill course for the first floor.

The first floor has sash windows set in eaved architraves with segmental heads, with the central window featuring a mask and pendant. The second floor windows are architraved with cornices, and the central window is topped with a pediment. A dentil cornice with paired terminal consoles is located beneath the attic storey, which includes semicircular arched architraved windows. The building is further enhanced by panelled quoin pilasters and a crowning moulded cornice with a blocking course raised over the central section.
