Description
A row of six terraced town houses located at 36-42 Park Street, London, built between 1895 and 1896 by J.E. Trollope. The houses are constructed of red brick with stone dressings and have slate roofs, exhibiting a Free Queen Anne-Jacobean style. They are four storeys tall with gabled attics. Each front appears two windows wide. The outer houses have ground floors that project outwards, with entrances to the right and left, each featuring enclosed arched porches. The porches are flanked by engaged columns on pedestals, with steps leading up to swan neck open pediments. The central pair of houses have doorways set back under balconies. Canted bays extend from the basement to the second floor of the central pair of houses. The outer houses have full-height canted bays on the first floor, with square windows above, all featuring sash lights in stone frames. A swept parapet links the pedimented gables and is continued as a string course across them. Scrolled stone kneelers are present on the gable saddles, with cartouches below the gable apexes on the outer houses. The return elevation of number 42 to Reeves Mews includes a chimney breast with a prominent stack, a bay window, and a cupola. Cast iron ornamental area railings are present.
