Description
34 Park Street is a terraced town house that is part of J.E. Trollope's terrace built in 1895. The building was refronted and the interior redecorated between 1913 and 1914 by Romaine-Walker and Jenkins for James de Rothschild. It features fine quality tuck-pointed red brick and a slate roof, showcasing an accomplished late 18th-century revival style. The house has four storeys, a basement, and a dormered mansard roof, with a width of three windows. The entrance is located to the left, featuring a panelled door set within a stone architrave that has a consoled cornice hood. The windows are recessed glazing box sashes, placed under flat gauged rubbed brick arches. The first and second floors are designed with a shallow segmental bow, adorned with a dentil cornice and blocking course. Above the third floor, there is a main bracketed cornice and a parapet with coping. A stone balcony, which is cantilevered on very shallow console brackets, extends across the first floor and is complemented by elegant cast iron railings. The area railings are finished with spearhead and pine-cone finials. Inside, the house features elegant neo-classical interiors, including one room fitted with a chimney piece and doorcase in the Chinese taste.
