Description
No. 11 Essex Street is a terrace house built around 1675 to 1682 as part of a development by Barbon, with some early 19th-century alterations. The building is constructed of brown brick and features a slate roof. It stands four storeys tall with a basement and is three windows wide. To the right, there is a recessed semicircular arched doorway with stucco reveals. The windows are recessed sashes without glazing bars, set under flat gauged arches, with consoles supporting the sills on the first and second floors. The building has a parapet with coping. Inside, there is a closet wing and a staircase with spiral flights and a closed string. The first and second floor rooms still have some of their original panelling and cornices.
