Description
32 Essex Street is a Grade II* listed terrace house located in the City of Westminster. It is an early to mid 18th century rebuild of a Barbon house. The building features a brown brick exterior and a slate roof, rising three storeys with a basement and a dormered mansard. It is three windows wide, with the entrance situated to the left. This entrance includes a panelled door and a semicircular fanlight, framed by a wooden doorcase supported by Doric columns, dosserets, and an open pediment. The recessed sash windows are set beneath flat gauged arches. Additional architectural details include a stone plat band over the ground floor and stone sill bands, along with a parapet that has coping.
Inside, the house retains a passage hall with a pilastered archway leading to a closed moulded string staircase, which features turned and twisted balusters. The panelling and box cornices on the first and second floors are largely intact, among other features.
