Description
This is a terrace of houses located on the south side of Chester Square. The terrace was planned in 1828 and building began around 1835. The houses are constructed of stucco with slate mansard roofs. They are three storeys high, with an attic, an attic mansard, and a basement. Each house is originally two windows wide, although the central and end houses project slightly and are one window wide, featuring paired giant pilasters to the first and second floors. The ground floor is channelled. The houses have square-headed entrances and windows. Panelled doors provide access. The central and end houses have their first-floor windows set within segmental arched reveals. They are also distinguished by cast iron first-floor balconies with an anthemion pattern. The windows are largely sash windows, some with glazing bars and some with plate glass. French windows are present on the first floor. A cornice runs above the second floor, followed by a smaller cornice above the third floor. Cast iron spearhead area railings are also present. The returns to the terrace are of architectural interest. The terrace is an integral part of a larger planned development.
