Description

No. 13 Buckingham Street is a terraced town house built around 1675-76, which was rebuilt after a fire in 1684 and underwent late 18th-century alterations. It is part of Barbon's York House estate development. The house is constructed of brown brick with a slate roof, featuring four storeys (the top floor was rebuilt in the late 18th century with a parapet) and a basement. It is three windows wide. The doorway is located to the right and includes a panelled door with a fan-patterned semicircular fanlight, set within a later 18th-century wooden doorcase that has three-quarter fluted Doric pilasters, an entablature with a swag, roundel, carved head frieze, and a bracketed cornice. The windows are recessed glazing bar sashes under flat gauged arches. There is a plat band above the second floor and a parapet with coping. The cast iron area railings feature urn finials. Inside, the house has late 18th-century plain mouldings and a geometrical, narrow, open well staircase, among other features.
