Description

The Champion Public House is a corner public house built around 1860-1870. It is constructed from gault brick with stucco dressings and features a slate roof. The building showcases lively classical detailing and stands four storeys tall, with three windows on each front and an inset stuccoed quadrant corner. The ground floor includes a bar front with corner and side entrances, along with fronted bar windows framed by crude pilasters that support an entablature-fascia topped with a richly decorated modillion cornice. The upper floors are adorned with segmental arched sash windows, with keystones and marks on the first floor. A heavy moulded crowning cornice and blocking are present at the top. Additionally, there is a large ornamental cast iron lamp bracket at the corner. The interior retains some original bar fittings, including screens, although some elements have been renewed.
