Description
Queen's Tower is the surviving tower of the demolished Imperial Institute, built between 1887 and 1893 by Thomas E Collcott. It is constructed from Portland stone with red brick bands and features a copper dome. The design is in an eclectic Renaissance style. The tower has four main stages, with balustraded balconies between them. It has a tall square shaft adorned with pilaster strips and an archway near the base. Small arched windows are placed at intervals, with paired windows towards the top. The dome sits above an octagonal stage, which has semicircular turrets and flying buttresses at the four corners of the tower. At the top, there is a cupola with a gilded finial.
