Description
A block of terraced houses at 1-7, Eaton Gate, dates from the mid-19th century. The building is constructed of stucco, with a roof that is not visible. It comprises two main sections: a four-bay, five-storey block to the left, and an eight-bay, five-storey block to the right, which is slightly taller. These are linked by a three-storey, one-bay block. There are projecting Doric porches to the right block and a projecting pilastered porch to the link bay. A continuous first-floor balustraded balcony runs along the front. The windows are square-headed and corniced on the first and second floors, with the third floor windows of the right block also corniced. The windows on the first floor of the right block have segmental pediments. Architraves are present on the ground floor windows of a single bay. The windows are predominantly sash windows with glazing bars, although there are French casements on the first floor. Modillion cornices are located above the fourth floors. Wrought iron area railings are also present. The building is included on the list solely for its group value with the other houses in Eaton Square.
