Description

The United Westminster Almshouses are a late 19th-century building from 1880 to 1882, designed by R R Arnteg, and built to replace earlier almshouses. The main central section is two storeys and an attic, while the flanking wings are three storeys and slightly project, finished with Flemish gables. The central section features three windows with mullions and transoms, and a projecting porch with Doric corner piers, a tryglyph frieze, and a pediment in rubbed brick, with keystones above the windows. A sill band and covered eaves cornice are present, and the building has a tile roof with three pedimented dormers and a square cupola with a dome and window arch. The projecting wings each have three windows per floor, also with keystones, and circular windows in the gables. The windows in the wings are sash windows with glazing bars only to the upper halves. The building's group value is recognised.
