Description
A terrace of houses built around 1843 to 1845 as part of Thomas Cubitt’s development of Pimlico. The designs were likely by Thomas or his brother, Lewis Cubitt. The terrace is constructed of stucco with slate roofs and is arranged symmetrically, featuring pavilion blocks at each end, numbers 46 and 47 forming a north-facing return elevation. The terrace has three storeys and a basement, with the corner pavilion blocks rising to four storeys. Each section of the front of the terrace is two windows wide, with the corner pavilions having one window each facing Millbank and a three-window-wide return. The ground floors are channelled and feature entrances with two-panel doors and rectangular margin glazed fanlights set in square headed recesses. The ground floor also has square headed recessed sash windows. First-floor sashes are semicircular arched and set within similarly arched panels. Second-floor sashes are flat arched and articulated by pilaster piers. A moulded cornice and blocking course run along the top of the terrace. Corner pavilions, numbers 48 and 57, are simpler in design, with stucco window surrounds and a crowning coping course to the attic storey. Number 48 has a Doric column porch to its north return, while number 57 has a simple pilastered shop front under an entablature fascia. Numbers 46 and 47, on the north return, are similarly plainer, lacking the rounded first-floor windows. Cast iron spearhead area railings are present.
