Description
The Morpeth Arms Public House is a corner public house built around 1845 as part of Thomas Cubitt's Pimlico development, possibly designed by Thomas or his brother Lewis Cubitt. The building features a stucco exterior and a slate roof, integrating seamlessly with the Millbank and Ponsonby Place terraces.
It stands four storeys tall with a basement, presenting three windows to Millbank and a three-window return to Ponsonby Place, highlighted by an inset bowed corner bay. The ground floor is channelled, with a splayed corner entrance and large flat arched bar windows beneath an entablature-fascia. The upper floors have recessed glazing bar sashes; the first-floor windows are adorned with cornices, while the second-floor windows feature pediments and balconies. There is a continuous balcony across the first-floor windows facing Ponsonby Place, complemented by cast iron area railings.
