Description
The Statue of George IV is an equestrian statue located in Trafalgar Square, Westminster. It was created between 1829 and 1843 by Sir Francis Chantrey and T Earle. Originally cast for the Marble Arch as the entrance to Buckingham Palace, it was finally erected in Trafalgar Square in 1843. The statue is made of bronze and stands on a granite pedestal. It features a be-cloaked portrait of George IV in contemporary dress, styled in the manner of a Roman Emperor, and is depicted riding without stirrups. Notably, the corresponding north-western pedestal in the square remains without a statue.
