Description
Southside Halls at Imperial College is a student residential block built between 1960 and 1963, designed by Sheppard Robson and Partners. The building is constructed from board marked reinforced concrete and features glass and timber framed windows, topped with a flat roof. It stands ten stories tall, with student rooms arranged in clusters of eight across six floors. These are divided into two groups of three by an upper level 'street', situated above a podium that houses common rooms and refectories. The ground floor, gallery level, and top storey are recessed. The design includes floor-to-ceiling glazing with expressed cross walls between the student rooms, while the common areas feature floor-to-ceiling glazing with narrowly spaced thick timber mullions.
