Description
No. 15 Lower Regent Street is a commercial building with chambers, constructed around 1839-1840 by Decimus Burton. The building features a stucco facade and a concealed roof, showcasing a lofty Italianate style. It stands seven storeys tall and is five windows wide. The ground floor, added in the 1970s, is faced with marble and includes a central entrance flanked by display windows with quadrant corners. The first floor is channelled, while the upper floors are plain, featuring recessed sash or casement windows set in architraves on sill courses. The second floor windows are adorned with aedicules that include Corinthian columns and pediments. There are cornices above the fourth-floor windows, and the first floor and mezzanine windows are tripartite, supported by panelled piers that hold scrolled consoles for the second-floor balconettes, which have cast iron railings. The fourth-floor balconettes, also with similar railings, serve as cornices for the third-floor windows. A guilloche patterned band is present at the fourth floor, and the building is topped with a deeply moulded projecting eaves cornice.
