Description

The Temple in the grounds of Mount Clare is a Grade II* listed structure built around 1762-1769. It is designed in the Greek Doric style, inspired by an illustration from Stuart and Revett's work, 'The Antiquities of Athens'. The temple features sculptured panels in both the portico and the interior, along with a coved frescoed ceiling. In 1913, it was relocated from Bessborough House, where it may have been designed by the architect Sir William Chambers.
