Description

Old Battersea House is a circa 1699 terrace house, originally known as The Terrace House. It is a two-storey building with dormers. The house is constructed of brown brick with red dressings around the windows. A moulded brick band runs along the first floor, and there is a wooden eaves cornice to the hipped roof. The windows are gauged flat arched and flush framed, with glazing bars. The west front, which serves as the entrance front, has seven windows, with dummy windows between the central three and the end pairs. A doorway is centrally positioned, featuring brick Doric pilasters, carved brackets and a frieze, culminating in a pedimented hood. A similar doorway is present on the garden front. The interior retains much of its original panelling, along with a staircase distinguished by twisted balusters, panelled newels, close strings, and moulded handrails.
