Description

This is a mid-19th century stock brick terrace with stucco detailing, located on the south side of Cyprus Street. The terrace originally comprised numbers 34 to 80 but the listing has been amended to cover numbers 40 to 80. A stucco cornice, blocking course, and a band are visible, with a further band marking the sill height of the first floor. The buildings are two storeys, with two windows on each floor. The first-floor windows have segmental heads and shouldered, moulded stucco architraves; the ground-floor windows feature round arched surrounds. Most windows retain their original sash glazing bars. The doorways have paired doors set within moulded stucco architraves featuring keys and pilasters. The terrace incorporates the Duke of Wellington Public House (number 52), which is flanked by small shops on either side, with additional shops at the ends (numbers 32 and 78). The Duke of Wellington Public House has a stuccoed facade and eaves cornice with a frieze and blocking course. It is two storeys high with three windows, featuring sashes with glazing bars within segmental arches set in round arched recesses with an impost band. The pub’s front features pilasters with composite capitals and a dentil cornice; a central lamp bracket remains. Numbers 47 to 75 (odd) and numbers 40 to 80 (even) form a group.
