Description
The area railings at numbers 8 and 10 Fournier Street are from the early 18th century. Number 8 is constructed of brown brick, which is painted red, while number 10 features red brick dressings. Both buildings are three storeys tall, with a basement and attic; number 8 has gabled dormers in the attic. Each building has three windows, each with flush frames and glazing bars set under segmental arches. Number 8 has modern glazing on the first and second floors, while the other windows are unbarred sashes. Number 10 retains glazing bars. The wood doorcases have fluted pilasters and an architrave that rises to a dentilled cornice at the center. The area railings are also a notable feature. These buildings are part of a group that includes the Great Synagogue, numbers 1 to 39 (odd), numbers 2 to 20 (even), number 84 (The Ten Bells Public House), Christ Church on Commercial Street, and numbers 57 and 59 Brick Lane, as well as number 2 Wilkes Street.
