Description
This is an early 18th-century building on Fournier Street. It is constructed of yellow brick with brick dressings, originally painted red. The roof is covered with pantiles. The building is three stories high, with a weatherboarded attic space. Originally, a stucco band above the first floor inscribed "London Dispensary. Instituted 1777" was present, but it has been concealed by a modern sign. The front has five windows arranged under segmental arches, with stone keys. The windows are sash windows with glazing bars, set in flush frames. The original wooden doorcase features carved brackets, a panelled soffit, a hood, a curved, fluted, flattened oval design, and Doric pilasters. A later entrance has been added to the left side of the building. The interior contains notable features.
The building is part of a group that includes numbers 1 to 39 (odd), numbers 2 to 20 (even), number 84 (The Ten Bells Public House), Christ Church on Commercial Street, and numbers 57 & 59 Brick Lane, and number 2 Wilkes Street.
