Description

These area railings are located at numbers 16 and 18 Fournier Street. The railings date from the early 18th century. Numbers 16 and 18 are brown brick buildings with red brick details. Number 16 is painted pink and has a dormer window set into a slate mansard roof, while number 18 has a weatherboarded attic and a pantiled roof. Each building is three storeys high with a basement and attic, and features three windows. Number 16 has segmental arches over its windows, with flush frames and glazing bars. Number 18 has added stucco flat-topped architraves to its windows, which are set in reveals, along with some original glazing bars. Both properties have coupled front doorcases featuring fluted Doric pilasters, carved brackets, an enriched cornice, panelled reveals, and a soffit to the hood. The buildings are part of a group which includes numbers 1 to 39 (odd), 2 to 20 (even), number 84 (The Ten Bells Public House), Christ Church on Commercial Street, numbers 57 and 59 Brick Lane, and number 2 Wilkes Street.
