Description

Netteswell House is a late 17th-century house, with alterations from the early 18th century and later additions. It is constructed of brick, with stone bands at the first and second floor levels. The south front, which serves as the entrance front, features two shaped gables at the second floor, each terminating in a pediment and topped with heavy moulded stone coping. The roof is tiled. The house is three storeys high, originally featuring four windows on both the ground and first floors, and two windows in the gables at the second floor. The windows have recessed sash windows with red brick dressings and flat arches. Above the entrance door, which now leads to the garden, is a stone tablet inscribed "Netteswell House - AD1553 - Remodelled 1705 and 1862". The east side of the house has one window and two blank panels on both the ground and first floors, with plaster coved eaves. The house now has its main entrance from Old Ford Road and overlooks the grounds of Bethnal Green Museum. Netteswell House, together with Nos 15 to 21 (odd) on The Terrace, forms a group with the Church and Priory of Our Lady of the Assumption, Victoria Park Square.
