Description

The Davenant Foundation School (Rear Block) is a building located on Whitechapel Road, constructed in 1895, although the southern part likely dates from the mid-19th century. Designed in the Jacobean style, it features red brick with terracotta stone dressings. The building is two storeys high with gables. The ground floor is entirely arcaded, and access to the first floor is provided by a side external brick staircase that has an open arcade. The entrance to this staircase is situated under a gable adorned with scrolls that resemble those on the main building. The first floor contains four windows, arranged with 2, 3, 3, and 3 lights, each featuring mullions and transoms. Additionally, there are semi-circular windows with radial glazing bars located under the gables, along with an eaves cornice and a blocking course.
