Description

These are a row of terraced houses at 11-23 Newell Street, built in the mid-18th century. They are constructed of brick with coped parapets, although the roofs are not visible. The houses originally formed a group with number 2, the garden wall of the former St Anne’s Rectory, Limehouse Town Hall, St Anne’s Parish Church, churchyard walls, railings, gates and piers, and the War Memorial on Commercial Road, as well as the Limehouse Church Institute on Three Colt Street.

Number 11 is two storeys and has a basement, and features two windows. The ground floor has a stuccoed, flat bowed front, while the first floor has a wrought iron balcony. There is an entrance porch on the return. Houses 13 to 23 are three storeys with basements, and two windows each, except for number 19 which has three. The ground floors are stuccoed. Doorcases with dentilled open pediments on consoles remain at numbers 15, 19, 21 and 23; fanlights are present above the doors at all but number 11. The upper floors of number 23 have been rebuilt. All windows have rendered lintels.
