Description

Two linked pairs of villas were built around 1843. They are constructed of stucco, with low-pitched, slate hipped roofs and a parapet to the recessed entrance links. The buildings are two storeys high, with two bays per villa, except for number 46, which has three bays. Numbers 40 to 44 feature pointed, blank niches beside their front doors, each with a reeded frame and cornice head; this cornice has been lost from number 42. Numbers 42 and 44 have a small entrance loggia; number 46 has a Doric, prostyle porch, featuring fluted three-quarter columns leading to a door with a cornice head set within a round-arched opening. The ground-floor sash windows of numbers 40 to 44 have stucco architraves and console bracketed cornices, while the first-floor windows have plain reveals. Number 46 has sash windows with glazing bars. The right-hand bay of the ground floor has a round-arched window; the windows above have stucco architraves. A two-storey canted bay window is situated on the left-hand bay of number 46, with a quoin pilaster. Numbers 44 and 46 have a pilaster running down their axis. Number 42 was boarded up at the time of the survey. The interior was not inspected. The property includes area railings for number 44.
