Description
This lamp post, which incorporates a former hand pump, is located near the corner with Peckham Grove on Southampton Way in Southwark. It dates from the late 19th century and has been converted in the 20th century to serve as an electric light. The structure is made of cast iron and stands on a stone base, designed in the Gothic Revival style. It features a rectangular lower step that supports a square base for the octagonal pump, which is divided into three sections. The lowest section is plain, while the two upper sections are adorned with panels filled with blind Gothic tracery and an ornamental cap. There are remnants of the pump handle still visible. This lamp post is part of a group that includes a drinking fountain and a cattle trough located immediately to the west on Southampton Way.
