Description
The Angel Public House is a public house located on Bermondsey Wall East in Southwark, dating from the 1830s, and possibly incorporating parts of an earlier 17th-century building of the same name. It has undergone some alterations in the 20th century. The structure is made of multi-coloured stock brick with a timber ground floor and features a low-pitched slate roof that has a gully and hip rising to the right, behind a stucco cornice and blocking course. The building is two storeys tall with an attic and consists of three bays. The entrance is located in the rounded angle to the left return, with an additional entrance in the right bay. The ground floor bays are defined by modified Doric pilasters, which are paired at the ends and support a fascia and cornice. The first-floor sash windows, which have glazing bars, are topped with gauged brick, segmental arches. The first floor also features a stucco band and brick pilasters at either end. The river front includes a weatherboarded gallery supported by wooden posts, with a balcony below and to the left return. The interior has not been inspected.
