Description

This pair of cast iron bollards was made for the Clink Paving Commissioners by Messrs Bishop and Co in 1812 as boundary markers. They were relocated to their current position at the east end of Keppel Row by 1876.

The two tapering bollards stand approximately 1 meter tall and are designed in the shape of cannons. Each bollard features a rounded cap resembling a half-cannonball, a moulded muzzle band, a lower moulded band, and a moulding at the base. The northern bollard has the inscription ‘CLINK 1812’ cast in relief on both the front and back, while only the date ‘1812’ remains on the southern bollard. The bollards are painted in alternating bands of black and white.
