Description

A terrace of five houses located on Bermondsey Street, dating from the mid-18th century. The buildings are constructed of red brick, with later stuccoed frontages and parapets.

The houses at numbers 68-70 are three storeys high and feature five bays, with the central four bays projecting forward. The projecting section includes a rounded bay on the left and features two entrances and two windows at ground floor, with remnants of earlier shop fronts. A single window is blank on the first and second floors. The windows are revealed sash windows with glazing bars, set within stucco sills. A ground-level archway provides access to the rear.

Numbers 72-76 are also three storeys high, with number 76 incorporating an attic dormer in a pitched tiled roof. These sections are arranged in pairs of two bays each. The ground floors feature 20th-century timber shop fronts. The first and second floors have revealed sash windows with glazing bars and stucco sills; the windows at number 74 are four-pane, while the others are twelve-pane.

The interior of the buildings was not inspected, and reports suggest little of historical interest remains. At the time of the survey, numbers 74 and 76 were in office use on the ground floor. Numbers 68-72 were additionally listed on September 27, 1972.
