Description

A row of five almshouses located in Southwark, built in 1852 and designed by Woodthorpe. The buildings are constructed of grey brick with stucco dressings, and have a low-pitched slate roof hidden behind a decorative series of shaped gables, each topped with an obelisk finial. The design presents a unified appearance of two storeys and five bays, with projecting bays at each end. The end bays feature rusticated stucco quoins, and pilaster strips topped with ball finials sit between the bays. The doors have rusticated stucco lintels, and the windows are mullioned and transomed, set within squared block surrounds. A plinth and moulded string run along the first floor. Tall diagonal stacks are situated between each house. The interior has not been inspected.
