Description
'The Preacher' is a figurative sculpture created in 1961 by Peter Laszlo Peri. It is made from a mix of concrete and synthetic resin and is positioned diagonally above the main entrance of Forest Gate Methodist Church, which features an angular concrete porch with chamfered sides. The sculpture is cantilevered from the western gabled brown brick wall of the church. The figure stands approximately 4.1 meters tall and 2.3 meters wide, depicting a man with elongated limbs dressed in a short robe or dress, holding a prayer-book in his left hand.
