Description
Emmanuel Church is a church built in 1852, designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott in the Decorated Gothic style. It is constructed from Kentish ragstone and features a tiled roof that extends to the eaves. The church does not have a clerestory. A perpendicular north aisle, added in 1890, matches the height and width of the original nave. There is a short tiled broach spire over the chancel arch. The south side of the church includes a Lady Chapel, which balances the organ chamber on the north side. The building has a lean-to south aisle and a south porch, with buttressed aisles. A low turretted north transept is also present. Inside, the nave arcading consists of vigorously foliated columns arranged in six bays.
