TQ 3875 14/267 No 97 (The Sacred Heart Convent) II

Substantial detailed house. 1856 with earlier origins. John Thomas. Stucco slate pitched roof to parapet. 3-storey, 5-bay centre block with full height canted bay window. 2-storey wings, only slightly lower, to either side, of 3 bays, that to right recessed with advanced 1-storey quadrant wing in front, formerly conservatory with applied Corinthian columns. Square headed entrance with Doric half columns to left bay of centre block. Square headed windows to ground and first floor of mainblock and to right wing. Other windows mainly segmental headed. Architraves, sashes,plate glass. Stucco bands between storeys. Modillion cornice below balustraded parapet. Garden front with Doric colonnade to ground floor. Service wing of 2 storeys and dormers to west. Surviving interior features including staircase,carved fireplace stencilled and plasterwork ceilings, inlaid marble floors, etc.
