Description

This is an early 19th-century terrace of six houses, numbered 3 to 9, situated on the southwest side of Tranquil Vale. Each house is three storeys high and originally had two windows. Number 9 has a slightly set-back, single-bay extension, built over what was a carriageway. The houses are constructed of multicoloured stock brick. The frontages of numbers 3 and 9 are topped with parapets. Numbers 5 and 7 have a stucco cornice and blocking course. A thin string course runs across the architraves of all the houses. The sash windows have glazed bars, and those on the first floor of numbers 5 and 7 are accentuated by a frieze and cornice above. Ground-floor shop fronts are modern reproductions of early 19th-century designs. The first-floor windows of number 9 are protected by ornamental cast iron guards. Numbers 3 to 9, Tranquil Vale, are historically considered one group.
